EU Center Hosts Scripps Tea

Scripps Tea, the weekly tradition begun in 1931 as a means of fostering community, relaxation, and “interesting conversation,” invites the community to enjoy all of the above — and German chocolate — as guests of the European Union Center of California, based at Scripps College.

“We are one of about 20 such centers established across the United States with the financial assistance of the European Commission,” explains David Andrews, professor of international relations and director of the center. “It is the only such center to be based at an undergraduate institution, and its mission focuses on undergraduate education.”

As hosts of the tea, center representatives will be available to answer questions about both the European Union and summer internships and research opportunities sponsored through the center, which boasts the nation’s largest and oldest annual conference featuring original research by undergraduate students about Europe, the EU, and transatlantic relations.

“Participants hail from Scripps, the other Claremont Colleges, the UC system, and indeed from across the country,” notes David. That should make for some interesting conversation!

Scripps Tea is held every Wednesday, beginning at 3:30pm. For more information, contact the Malott Commons at (909) 607-8508.
