Athenas Cross Country Wins First Place at 2014 SCIAC Championships

2014 SCIAC champions

For the third consecutive year and the eleventh time in the history, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) Athenas cross-country team finished first in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) championships. The Athenas, ranked second regionally and fourteenth in the nation, accept the award and individual honors at Prado Park on November 1.

“The Prado course, which is always rather slow due to soft ground and long grass, was made even slower by overnight rain which made sections of the course very muddy,” notes the CMS Athletics website. Nonetheless the Athenas took home victories in the women’s Cross Country race with help from outstanding Scripps athletes; Carmen Mejia ‘17 finished fifth and Jen Lehr ‘17 finished ninth, earning First Team All-SCIAC honors, while Bryn McKillop ‘18, Taia Wu ‘15, and Kaitlyn Spees ‘15 earned Second Team All-SCIAC honors.

The men and women’s teams race again on November 15 in Salem, Oregon, to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
