Scripps College is proud to announce that it has once again been named a Top Producing Institution of Fulbright recipients for the 2025–26 academic year by the prestigious Fulbright Program, the US Department of State’s flagship international exchange initiative. This recognition celebrates Scripps’ remarkable run as a top producer for more than a decade, a distinct honor as a liberal arts women’s college among a select group of national institutions.
The Fulbright US Student Program offers graduating college seniors, recent graduates, and early-career professionals opportunities to study, research, or teach English abroad in more than 140 countries. The program aims to expand perspectives through academic and professional advancement and cross-cultural dialogue.
“I’m always delighted, but never totally surprised, when Scripps is honored each year as one of Fulbright’s Top Producing Institutions.” says Associate Dean of Faculty Warren Liu, whose mentorship has been instrumental for the Fulbright application process. “Our students are deeply engaged in interdisciplinary inquiry, responsible scholarship, and cross-cultural community building—characteristics that make them highly qualified for prestigious awards like the Fulbright.”
This year, Scripps College earned seven Fulbright awards. Sophia Wasel ’23 and Maya Lobo ’25 won awards for open study/research in Germany, while Momoka Schmidt ’25 (Spain), Tselot Aklilu ’21 (Korea), Sophie Dinerman ’25 (Germany), Alondra Cobian ’25 (Mexico), and Angela Zhou ’25 (Taiwan) all received English teaching Fulbrights. Two of the recipients chose to pursue alternative postgraduate paths.
“I am constantly humbled by the beauty, warmth, and generosity of Mexico. From every school I visit, every student I talk to, and every teacher I work with, I learn something new,” says Cobian. “Being a Fulbrighter in Mexico has filled me with gratitude and hope for the future of my community around the world. I am incredibly fortunate to live in a country that means so much to me.”
Adds Liu, “The Fulbright year for our students and alums provides the perfect opportunity to take what they’ve learned at Scripps and make a positive impact in a global setting.”
