Update on Masking

February 25, 2022

Dear Students,

I hope this email finds you well and enjoying this crisp Friday. As you may be aware, earlier this week the Los Angeles County Public Health Department released new interim indoor masking guidelines that go into effect today. The new guidelines permit the removal of masking requirements for vaccinated individuals indoors, subject to specific requirements for verifying individuals’ vaccination status and photo identification upon entrance to the building/facility.

This interim guidance is primarily intended for single site venues such as restaurants, retail, and performance venues. It is not workable in a campus setting with multiple buildings as each building is treated as a separate indoor space that requires vaccination and photo ID verification.

Accordingly, Scripps, along with many other institutions of higher education in Los Angeles County, will be maintaining our current indoor masking requirement – meaning surgical mask or higher are still required indoors. Masks are not required inside a student’s individual residence hall room, suite, or apartment. Those areas are considered your “household.” Surgical masks will be distributed to students in their mailboxes. Please make sure to retrieve your weekly mask supply by Friday. If masks are not picked up weekly, they will not be replenished.

If and when Los Angeles County revises its mask requirements, the College will evaluate whether and when to adjust campus masking protocols. For further information please visit Scripps Strong.

Good luck with mid-terms!

Warmly,

Dean di Bartolo-Beckman

Interim Vice President for Students Affairs and Dean of Students
