COVID-19 Community Update

Dear Scripps Community:

We hope you enjoyed a restful winter break and are ready for another incredible semester here at Scripps College. Over the winter break, the COVID-19 Working Group continued to monitor local COVID-19 case rates and LA County guidance. While cases are generally decreasing locally, there are still more than 1,700 new cases reported each day in LA County and the numbers around the nation and across the world continue to raise concerns.

LA County Public health officials are concerned that traveling and gathering during the holidays will result in increased transmission and have recommended that everyone ages two (2) and older wear a mask in indoor public spaces. This includes transit, retail, event venues, school, and worksites. In light of this, and our desire to facilitate a safer return to campus, indoor masking is strongly recommended at Scripps College through January 27, 2023. Faculty may elect to require masks in their respective classrooms.

Upgraded masks (i.e., surgical, KN95, N95) will continue to be available through the facilities department.

We appreciate your continued cooperation and understanding as we endeavor to mitigate the spread of this virus. We wish you a wonderful and healthy start to 2023.

Respectfully,

Sha Bradley
Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
