Lara Deeb – Anthropology, Laura Vausbinder Hockett Endowed Chair

Lara Deeb’s recent book Love Across Difference: Mixed Marriage in Lebanon received Honorable Mention for the Middle East Studies Association’s Nikki Keddie Book Award, which recognizes “outstanding scholarly work in the area of religion, revolution, and/or society.”

During the 2025-2026 academic year, Lara Deeb has been invited to speak on several national webinars in her capacity as the Co-Chair of the Middle East Studies Association’s Task Force on Civil and Human Rights. These include webinars on “Title VI and the War on Higher Education,” “The Anti-Defamation League’s Attacks on Professional Associations,” and “The Right-Wing Attack on Higher Education.” In her capacity as a Middle East expert with a specialization in the Levan, Deeb has also spoken to the media and podcasters about the war on Lebanon.
