Events Levitt on the Lawn Trio Ellas

April 26, 2013

Trio Ellas

  • Levitt on the Lawn
  • Older Levitt on the Lawn Events

Trio EllasThis free event is part of the Levitt on the Lawn concert series presented by Pasadena’s Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts and sponsored by alumna Elizabeth Levitt Hirsch ’74. Since 2005, Levitt on the Lawn has brought eighteen diverse musical performances to the Scripps College campus. The nineteenth event will feature the group Trio Ellas, offering a mix of traditional mariachi and classic romantic Latin music — with a fresh contemporary twist.

This female power-trio has performed in venues worldwide, including Okinawa, Japan, where they recently completed a USO tour. More locally, the trio played at the annual League of United Latin American Citizens convention, the Latinos Unidos event at the Democratic National Convention, the Summer Sounds children’s program at the Hollywood Bowl, and the San Jose Latin Music Festival. Their debut album, Con Ustedes…Trio Ellas, released in May 2012, was nominated for a Latin Grammy award.

The group has contributed to the works of numerous recording artists, such as Benjamin Gibbard, Lady Gaga, Cristian Castro, and Mariachi El Bronx.

Trio Ellas includes Suemy Gonzalez, a senior at USC’s prestigious Thornton School of Music, on violin and vocals; Nelly Cortez, a fourth generation mariachi musician on guitarron and vocals; and Stephanie Amaro, who performs and records in genres ranging from rock to mariachi, on guitar and vocals.

The concert begins at 5:30 pm on the Bowling Green at Scripps College. Dinner will be available for purchase on the lawn (Claremont Colleges students, faculty, and staff may use their meal cards; all others $9.00), though picnic dinners are also welcomed. For more information, call the Malott Commons Program Office at (909) 607-9372.
