The Adanfo EnsembleJoin us for our first Summer Levitt on the Lawn Concert! This free event is part of the Levitt on the Lawn concert series presented by Pasadena’s Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts and sponsored by alumna Elizabeth Levitt Hirsch ’74. Since 2005, Levitt on the Lawn has brought nineteen diverse musical performances to the Scripps College campus. Our twentieth event will feature The Adanfo Ensemble, an extraordinary group of musicians and dancers from Ghana, West Africa.

The word “Adanfo” means “friends and family.” The Adanfo Ensemble is made up of highly experienced and talented dancers and musicians who have been performing together since 2003. The group’s founder, David Etse Nyadedzor, was born and raised in Ghana where he played with many local African groups as a young man. Etse was invited to the United States to share his knowledge and his culture, and became the first Director and Choreographer of West African and Dance Ensemble at Syracuse University. Este also performed in the National Theater with the Dance Factory who went on to perform in Zimbabwe and other parts of Africa. His life’s work has been to bridge cultures through music. The group also includes past members of the National Ballet, The Pan African Orchestra, and members from Kusun Ensemble.

Dinner will available for purchase from LA food truck icon Kogi BBQ, and dessert will be available from the King Kone ice cream truck. Picnic dinners are also welcomed, and a limited number of blankets and lawn chairs will be available to check-out at no cost (ID must be left for collateral). For more information, call the Scripps College Public Events Office at (909) 607-9372.
