Scripps Presents @Noon STEM Series: Stephanie Lim

Sit down with a leading figure in STEM for a thought-provoking discussion. Stephanie Lim will outline her research and provide valuable insights into the world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Whether you’re a student, professional, or simply interested in STEM, this event is not to be missed.
Lim is a PhD candidate at Stanford University and a biological oceanographer studying the effects of climate change on the polar oceans with a focus on algal blooms and their major role in the aquatic food web and carbon cycle. With over 65 days spent at sea on research vessels in the Arctic, she has witnessed firsthand the rapid destabilization taking place at the ends of the earth. Stephanie is also passionate about increasing access to STEM and higher education through long-range mentorship. She is deeply involved in Future Advancers of Science and Technology, a nonprofit that mentors high school students from historically marginalized and under-resourced communities. She serves on the Steering Community for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in Geosciences, a grassroots, member-driven organization founded in 2020 to build a community that supports AAPIs within geosciences. As a Scripps alum who majored in biology and minored in dance, Stephanie attributes her career path to her undergraduate research experiences.
