Advice for Rising Sophomores

So it’s your sophomore year, and you’re wondering about your academic plans. You also might consider your career prospects and plan the courses for your major. You might feel a little worried about your housing situation. I know I was. I was worried about having to live with roommates. Would I have been in a double or a triple? And how I would navigate the struggles of living with people I do not know well while navigating the academic aspects of college life.

All this being said, there are a few things I’d advise you to do during your sophomore year.

  • Complete your general education requirements, and start taking a language class if you haven’t already.
  • Take time to explore things you are passionate about that genuinly interest you. Get involved in an on-campus leadership activity.
  • Apply for fellowships
  • Fill out the roommate survey!
  • Join clubs and activities across the 5Cs!
  • Be kind to yourself. College is hard, and you will make mistakes. Unexpected things will arise, and you are bound to change. All of which is okay. Scripps is a space for learning and growth. You’re doing the right thing as long as you work to be a little better each day.

I wish you the best of luck with your sophomore year! & feel free to reach out at [email protected] if you have any questions :))
