My Top 5 Cafes and Eateries in Claremont

Introducing my favorite spots on campus in no particular order…

Jay’s Place: This has been and continues to be my favorite spot for late-night studying. Located at Harvey Mudd, Jay’s Place offers a wide variety of food, snacks, and drinks, perfect for satisfying those late-night cravings. I first discovered it with friends on a Friday night, and we tried their chicken sandwich, which quickly became a year-long favorite.

Mudbucks: Another gem from Harvey Mudd, Mudbucks is the college’s version of Starbucks, offering the same specialty drinks and snacks but at a reduced price. My go-to treat is the $3 chocolate muffin, which is both delicious and affordable. Mudbucks is conveniently located, making it an ideal spot to stop by between classes for a quick snack.

Shakedown: This cafe at Pitzer serves what I believe to be the most delectable burritos in Claremont. Open late into the evening, Shakedown is a perfect spot to hang out with friends and enjoy a delicious meal after a long day. The menu offers a variety of options, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

42nd Street Bagel: My favorite Sunday stop after wandering around the farmers market, 42nd Street Bagel is located in the village, about a 20-minute walk from Scripps campus. They offer a wide selection of fresh bagels that are always worth the trek. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic plain bagel or something more adventurous, you’re sure to find something to satisfy your cravings.

Flavored Yogurt Stand at the Farmers Market: This stand at the farmers market allows you to sample various flavored yogurts before buying. I always leave with three different containers for $20 because it’s simply the most delicious yogurt I’ve ever had. The wide variety of flavors and the freshness of the yogurt is unmatched. It’s a delightful treat that I look forward to every week and highly recommend checking out if you’re in the area.

These spots have become my go-to places in Claremont and I hope this list is helpful in curating your own:)
