Meet Jaela ’23

Hi everyone! My name is Jaela Alvarez, and I am from Las Vegas, NV. I am a senior here at Scripps majoring in Environmental Policy with a minor in Legal Studies on the Pre-Law Track. I applied to Scripps early decision since I knew from the moment I visited campus fall of my senior year of high school that this is where I belonged. Scripps was one of two women’s colleges I applied to, but I knew that an environment that was centered on empowering marginalized identities would best help me achieve my goals. The Scripps and 5C community is so unique from other colleges and universities. I get the best of both worlds by attending a small liberal arts college with resources for women of color while having the greater population of the Claremont Colleges to socially and academically expand into. Outside of the Admissions Office, a big passion of mine are two clubs that I am involved in. As an aspiring attorney and lover of the global affairs, joining the 4C Model United Nations team and the Scripps Pre-Law Society was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my time here on campus. I have learned so much from my fellow Scripps students and 5C peers. I have realized a lot about who I am and what I am capable of seeing as I am now President the of Model UN team and former Vice President of the Pre-Law Society which I am so proud of. Navigating college and finding out who you are can be very overwhelming and take a long time, but students here at Scripps really make the journey worthwhile!
