Mellon Interdisciplinary Humanities Initiative Partner Organizations

AbilityFirst An organization helping individuals with developmental disabilities live their best lives. AbilityFirst supports disabled children as they grow into adults, focusing on the capabilities of each individual and ensuring that they get the best opportunities possible.
Catholic Charities An organization assisting low-income communities and individuals through such services as childcare, pre-school programs, food pantries, and immigration assistance programs. Catholic Charities serves nearly 100,000 individuals in need per year.
Claremont Homeless Advocacy Program A program providing housing to homeless individuals. The program thrives on the commitment of volunteers, who create mentorships with homeless individuals to cultivate transformative relationships.
Claremont Manor Retirement Community A program providing housing to homeless individuals. The program thrives on the commitment of volunteers, who create mentorships with homeless individuals to cultivate transformative relationships.
Claremont After- School Program (CLASP) An after-school program providing elementary school students with recreational activities and academic support. CLASP provides academically-struggling students with support through mentorship and help with homework.
Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) An organization advocating for the rights of immigrant populations by offering legal services such as deportation defense, naturalization, family petitions, DACA renewal, and more. CHIRLA works to engage with voters through canvassing and phone banking. CHIRLA also provides workshops and information sessions to inform immigrant communities about their rights and other relevant issues.
Crossroads, Inc. A program to support previously incarcerated women as they transition out of prison. Crossroads helps these women gain economic independence and gain the necessary tools to thrive outside of prison by providing a residential environment for growth and transition.
dA Center for the Arts, Pomona An outreach organization providing creative expression through the arts. The dA center provides affordable classes and workshops, exhibitions, and other resources.
Foothill Family Shelter Inc Shelter for homeless individuals and families
House of Ruth Organization supporting domestic violence victims
Huerta del Valle Community garden
Inland Valley Hope Partners Food bank helping those dealing with food insecurity
Islamic Center of Claremont An organization serving the Muslim community

Pomona Economic Opportunity Center Organization that serves and advocates for workers’ rights by providing all kinds of training
Pomona Homeless Outreach An organization providing services for homeless individuals
Pomona Hope A program offering tutoring and educational support through after school programs
Pomona’s Promise  A central coordinating program for community services and programs
Pomona Unified School District This district serves approximately 30,000 Pre-K-12 students and 17,000 adult learners at 44 schools in Pomona and Diamond Bar, California
Shoes That Fit Organization providing shoes to children in need
St Ambrose Episcopal Church A resource for addicts and homeless individuals
Uncommon Good An organization working to end the cycle of poverty through educational and mentoring programs for youth and their families.
