Preethi de Silva

During the past two years, Con Gioia Early Music Ensemble based in Claremont, has devoted all of its concerts exclusively to the works of C. P. E. Bach, including a performance in Los Angeles on March 8, 2014 commemorating the 300th anniversary of his birth.

Harpsichordist and fortepianist Preethi de Silva, Emerita Professor of Music of Scripps College, is founder and artistic director of Con Gioia, and during the past year presented solo recitals of the composer’s works in the USA, Switzerland, and Germany. In 2013–2014 she released five compact discs devoted to Bach’s solo keyboard works. At the Tuesday Noon Academy, she will discuss the life and accomplishments of this second son of Johann Sebastian Bach and also the musical works she and the 12-member ensemble will perform on period instruments in the final program of this series, Concert IV: Swan Song and Reminiscences, in Balch Auditorium at 5:00 p.m. on March 10, 2015. Michael Deane Lamkin, emeritus Professor of Music and Dean of Faculty of Scripps College, will join the ensemble as guest conductor at this concert.

Following the presentation, Professor de Silva will be available to sign copies of seven CDs with works by both C. P. E. and J. S. Bach, as well as her own compositions. (See www congioia.org for details and sound clips of the CDs.)
