Nancy Neiman Auerbach Appointed Mary W. Johnson Professor

Nancy Neiman Auerbach, professor of politics and international relations, has been appointed to the Mary W. Johnson Professorship in Teaching at Scripps College, effective July 1, 2011. Professor Neiman Auerbach succeeds Professor Kerry Odell, who was the first appointee to this endowed professorship, in 2004.

The Mary W. Johnson Professorship recognizes superior teaching and service to Scripps College. The professorship, or chair, was established to honor a member of the faculty who exemplifies by his or her teaching and involvement in the affairs of the College the best of the Scripps tradition of superior teaching and commitment to the welfare of students and the College. The appointment to this endowed professorship is for a period of seven years and is non-renewable.

Professor Neiman Auerbach is noted by her peers as dynamic, enthusiastic, warm, passionate, and engaged. Her record of service to Scripps College includes chairing both the Strategic Planning Working Group and Faculty Executive Committee and membership on the Diversity Coordinating Committee and the Politics department. She is also an inaugural faculty member and active contributor to the Scripps College Academy.

Active in the Core Program, Professor Neiman Auerbach teaches a wide variety of courses, ranging from the foundational course in political economy to “Race and Capitalism,” “Markets and Politics in Latin America,” and “Financial Issues in Emerging Markets.” More recently, she has taught “Infrastructures of Justice” and a food politics practicum.
