Stacey Wood, Molly Mason Jones Chair in Psychology and professor of psychology, discussed the recent uptick in pension poaching scams with Bloomberg. The scams target elderly US veterans and their families, manipulating victims into signing away a portion of their pensions to false care coordination businesses. In Wood’s experience, victims of this type of fraud aren’t the veterans themselves, but often low-income family members dealing with the aftermath of the veterans’ passing.
