Keystones: Moira Moser ’60

  • Feature Stories

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) evidently reveres Moira Moser ‘60’s work – they’ve just honored her with a fellowship designation for her contributions to architecture and society. The founder of M Moser Associates, a global interior architecture firm headquartered in Hong Kong and operating in seventeen different locations around the world, this is the third fellowship bestowed upon Moser.

“To receive one of the AIA’s highest honors – a Fellowship – is a tremendous milestone, and a gratifying endorsement of what the company I founded has done for these last 32 years,” she says. “My achievements and those of M Moser Associates are, by and large, the same thing; more than 650 people share this honor with me.”

While Moser’s firm specializes in workplaces, the accomplished firm also takes responsibility for entire projects – from helping the client find the right site for their project to designing, engineering, and building them.

Moser had known since she was nine years old that she wanted to be an architect, so she chose Scripps because she wanted to explore the relationship between people, societies, and what led them to create their environments as they did.

“My goal then, as now, was to design buildings and environments for the people who use and inhabit them,” Moser says. “The Scripps core humanities program gave me a truly holistic approach.”

The AIA is the leading professional membership association for architects with chapters across the globe, and the organization has been a great influence on the evolution of architecture. Fellowships are awarded to architects who have demonstrated impressive work as individuals and also contributed to architecture on a national level.
