Frequently Asked Questions
When can I move in?
Unless you have already arrived on campus to take part in another program or training, SLI participants are scheduled to move in on Tuesday, August 22. This is the same day that new students arrive so there will be a different procedure for SLI students to pick up their room keys. More information will be provided as the date draws near.
I went to SLI last year. Will this be a repeat of all the same material?
Nope! This year’s Institute is almost entirely new. There are a couple topics on the agenda that were included last year but the materials and workshop activities have been updated. We received excellent feedback about last year’s SLI and we took those suggestions to heart. This year will provide even more opportunities for students to work together and for student voices to be heard. We’re pretty sure this is going to be the best SLI we’ve ever had.
Are meals included at Student Leadership Institute?
Yes! Meals are covered during all of SLI. The program begins with breakfast on Wednesday, 8/23, followed by lunch and dinner. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided on 8/24 and 8/25 as well. Friday dinner is the final meal with Student Leadership Institute. Snacks will be provided throughout. The sponsoring department (e.g. Tiernan Field House, SCORE) that arranged your early return date is responsible for covering meals before and after SLI, until meal plans kick in with dinner on Sunday, August 27. Check with your sponsoring department for information. The Laspa Center can provide some meal support for student-run organizations (e.g. SAS, Motley) upon request.
Which SLI sessions are optional and which are mandatory?
We’ve worked hard to create an agenda that is both fun and informative so our hope is that everyone will want to take part in all of it! The itinerary indicates which sessions are optional but this primarily includes meals and social gatherings. Otherwise, please plan to participate in SLI in its entirety unless specifically directed otherwise by your supervisor or CLORG advisor. This program is also considered job training for several sponsoring departments and all participants will be asked to sign in before sessions begin. Let your sponsoring department know if you will be unable to participate in any of SLI.
Who do I inform if I have dietary or accessibility concerns?
As most meals will be taken in Malott Commons, the familiar variety of offerings that support dietary requirements and preferences will be available. The menu for our catered breakfast on Wednesday, August 23 has likewise been designed with these same considerations in mind. If you have additional dietary concerns, or if there is anything we can do to make the event more accessible, please reach out to [email protected]
