Visiting Lecturer in Art Specializing in Book Arts Beginning Fall 2026

Scripps College, a women’s liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition, invites applications for (the position of Visiting Lecturer in Art specializing in Book Arts to teach two book arts studio classes the Fall ’26 semester. This position is for two courses only.

Scheduled course days/times are Mondays and Wednesdays: The Artist’s Book 10am -12pm and Experimental Relief Printing 1:15 -3:15pm.

The preferred candidate will have an MFA in Art with a specialty in Book Arts, including bookbinding, artists’ books, letterpress and relief printing; college level teaching experience, inclusive of TA-ships; a broad knowledge of contemporary art and the ability to teach letterpress, book arts techniques, and some alternative process work. This position will be expected to train and manage work-study students. In addition to teaching, responsibilities include budgeting and management of materials and maintaining Scripps College Press, the letterpress/bookbinding studio, on teaching days.

The Scripps Art program has seven full-time faculty and a few part-time lecturers. It offers a B.A. degree with a major or minor in Art. Application deadline is May 15, 2026.

The salary for this position will range from $17,100 to $19,000 and will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training. In light of recent federal updates to visa processing and associated costs, the College is generally not in a position to sponsor visas for faculty appointments.
