William Boyce was among the most important English composers of the late Baroque era. He is best known for his eight symphonies adapted mainly from the instrumental movements of his prolific odes and theatrical compositions. Russian composer, Victor Ewald’s brass quintet in Bb minor was long thought to be the first piece written specifically for five brass instruments. Raymond Burkhart’s Ricordi d’Italia is a musical response to a trip the composer made to Italy in the summer of 2014, the focus of which was to participate in a music festival in the small hilltop town of Staffolo, where he conducted the town band, a large brass ensemble, and gave performances of brass chamber music. Jan Bach’s Rounds and Dances was composed during the summer of 1980 and is a suite of five short movements conceived primarily in terms of the ensemble rather than the individual parts… Galop is the quickest movement of the set, poking gentle fun at Rossini among other composers of Allegro movements.

Doors open at noon. Food is not permitted in the auditorium.
