Scripps Dances 2024

Reflecting a variety of contemporary dance styles, SCRIPPS DANCES ‘24 is the Dance Department’s annual spring concert of original works choreographed by students, faculty, and guests. This year’s program includes Drive choreographed by renowned artist Kyle Abraham in collaboration with A.I.M and made possible with support from the Marian and Charles Holmes Performing Arts Fund. Scripps faculty member Ricky Medina’s newest Hip-hop creation will take the stage. Dance Majors Divya Ahuja, Sophie Kim, Loren Mello, Tierney O’Keefe, and Destiny Rivera-Gomez will present their senior thesis research projects in choreography. Ahuja blends movement styles to explore the potential and tensions within abstraction; Kim, who will complete a dual thesis in Dance and Sociology, examines a special intimacy from girlhood friendship; Mello reimagines the femme fatale; O’Keefe’s “Infatuation” is a jazzy exploration of spectacle and desire; and Rivera-Gomez navigates the experience of tri-cultural identity through the relationship between a mother and daughter. In addition, Senior Dance Minor Clara Spitz shares an over-the-top portrait of dissociation in a performance-centric society and Junior Dance Major Holand Dennis offers a fun and campy outer space celebration.
