Scripps Presents; Karen Tei Yamashita

Karen Tei Yamashita will be joined in conversation with Jean Chen Ho, the Scripps 2023 Mary Routt Endowed Chair of Writing

Karen Tei Yamashita is the author of seven books, including I Hotel, finalist for the National Book Award, and most recently, Sansei and Sensibility, all published by Coffee House Press. Recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters from the National Book Foundation, the John Dos Passos Prize for Literature, and a US Artists’ Ford Foundation Fellowship, she is professor emerita of literature and creative writing at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Jean Chen Ho is the author of Fiona and Jane, named one of TIME’s 100 Must-Read Books of 2022, a Best Book of the Year by NPR, Vulture, Vogue, Oprah Daily, Glamour, Harper’s Bazaar, and Elle, and longlisted for the 2022 Story Prize. Her writing appears in New York Times Magazine, The Cut, Electric Literature, Los Angeles Times, Georgia Review, GQ, Harper’s Bazaar, Guernica, and elsewhere. Jean is the 2023 Mary Routt Endowed Chair of Writing at Scripps College.
