Scripps College believes that learning and teaching create the conditions conducive to freedom of belief, inquiry, and speech, encouraging expression of the broadest range of opinions and beliefs. The College has made progress in diversifying its faculty, student body, staff, and Board of Trustees in the past decade; it established the Scripps College Academy to serve underrepresented high school students, underwrote course development to enhance understanding of cultural differences, and adopted a program of training in cultural awareness for all members of the community.
IDEA Initiative
In keeping with Scripps’ ongoing focus on strengthening a campus-wide culture of inclusion, in 2014 the College established the IDEA Initiative, a comprehensive plan to align resources, programs, and events to advance inclusion, diversity, equity, and access throughout the Scripps community.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Scripps
Scripps honors diversity as a key component of the academic, co-curricular, and residential life of the College. Learn how students, faculty, staff, and alumnae are engaging in diversity, equity, and inclusion work through research, scholarship, organizations, leadership, and initiatives at Scripps and beyond.
Programs
The College is dedicated to creating a forum for conversation about diversity, equity, and inclusion for both the Scripps and greater Los Angeles communities. These topics are explored through several series and spaces, including Scripps Presents, the public programming series for the College; the Scripps College Humanities Institute, the College’s interdisciplinary academic programming series; the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery; and the Clark Humanities Museum, among other initiatives.
