Ceremony

Saturday, May 17, 2025

Begins at 5:00 p.m.

Elm Tree Lawn

  • Line up for graduates begins at 4 p.m. inside Honnold Gate (behind Denison Library/Drake Wing)
  • Processional to Elm Tree Lawn begins at 5 p.m; Denison Library
  • The Denison front doors open at 5 p.m. sharp to begin processional.
  • Seating is open and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Attendees may begin lining up at 3:00 p.m. on the south side of Bowling Green; seating will begin at 3:30 p.m.
  • Seats have been reserved for those who have contacted the Public Events office and requested accommodations for disabilities.
  • All members of a party must be present to occupy a seat.

Commencement Rehearsal

Valencia Court

  • Rehearsal is mandatory for all graduates participating in the commencement ceremony
  • Students MUST arrive on time for a review of commencement ceremony procedures, last-minute announcements, and to receive important information regarding photography during the ceremony.
  • Caps and gowns are not needed for rehearsal.

  • The Class will move directly from the photo to lining up for the Commencement processional.

Name Pronunciation

Please record your name pronunciations directly through the portal. It is convenient and easy! Just login to the Portal at mycampus.scrippscollege.edu and click on “Name Pronunciation” in the menu on the left. Refer to the image to record or upload, and add a phonetic spelling of your name. Please record your name as you indicated on the Diploma Name form which you submitted to the Registrar’s office. This is how your name will appear in the commencement program. In addition to stating your full name clearly, please also write a phonetic pronunciation. You also can access the Name Pronunciation feature from your mobile phone or tablet the same way. All recordings must be completed by April 11, 2025.

ADA

  • Scripps College makes available accessibility access for those who require it. The college will provide ADA transportation from the McAlister Parking Lot to the Elm Tree Commencement site. ADA seating will accommodate the person in need plus up to two guests. The college provides wheelchair transport only; guests must bring their own wheelchair or motorized vehicle.
  • A campus map with accessibility access will be provided upon confirmation.
  • Humanities Auditorium will be equipped with a live feed of the ceremony. The auditorium is air conditioned and wheelchair accessible.

Commencement class rings, invitations, and announcements are available for purchase through Josten’s. You may place your order here.

Senior Portraits

Graduates are invited to have their formal Commencement portrait taken with a professional photographer. An appointment is required.

Graduating Senior Survey

Survey open April 1- May 16

  • Email invitations will be sent to students’ Scripps email addresses.
  • Show proof of survey completion or complete the survey in the Motley Coffeehouse on Wednesday, April 16 from 12om-4:30pm
  • Students who comeplete the survey will be entered into a raffle for one of seven prize items including Owala water bottles, Jellycat stuffed goodies and Scripps merch.
