Centennial FAQ

FAQ

How will the project benefit the Scripps community?

This project will integrate the historic core of campus and west of Columbia Avenue  to cultivate a more vibrant campus environment and unify the College’s west side of Columbia Avenue and create a new Centennial Plaza and Arts District. In addition to much-needed academic spaces and a new dance center, the Plaza will provide welcoming spaces for the greater Scripps community and visitors to the campus.

How is the project incorporating sustainable practices into its development?

The project will incorporate sustainable landscape features, including a bioswale. The bioswale will collect rainwater and allow it to soak into the ground, minimizing overflow, and preventing the ground from drying out.

When will classes be available in the new space?

The new classrooms are expected to be completed and fully operational during the 2026-27 academic year.

What impacts can we expect during construction?

Our goal is to minimize classroom disruption while always ensuring student and faculty health and safety. While classes will continue per the Colleges’ academic calendar, there are some foreseeable disruptions that are expected, as they are in any type of construction project of this scale.

How will the College notify the campus community about possible construction disruption?

The College’s project team will work closely with Scripps administration and faculty and staff to keep the campus informed of the construction schedule as well as work to keep disruptions to a minimum.

How can I keep updated on the project’s progress?

This website will post regular updates from the project team throughout the project, and we encourage you to visit the site often as the project takes shape.
