We are excited that you have decided to make Scripps College your home away from home.  New Student Programs and Orientation (NSPO) is designed to prepare you for your Scripps journey, acclimating you to campus resources, creating opportunities for engagement and building a greater sense of connectedness to one another and the greater Scripps community.

7:00AM MOVE-IN-DAY Honnold Gates Your day begins with check-in. You’ll receive welcome bag that includes your room key, ID card and other things to prepare you for NSPO 2018.
11:30AM LUNCH Jaqua West, East/West Alee, Elm Tree Lawn Take a break from unpacking with a quick grab and go lunch.
1:30PM NSPO WELCOME Garrison Auditorium Your Scripps journey officially begins with a welcome from members of senior administrators and student leaders.
2:30PM SCRIPPS TEA Tiernan Soccer Field Come and experience your first of many traditions at Scripps, sponsored by Scripps Associated Students (SAS) and Scripps Clubs and Organizations (CLORGs)
5:30PM WELCOME DINNER Elm Tree Lawn Scripps Faculty and Staff will join you on your first night for an evening of casual conversation and community engagement.
7:00PM NSPO 2018 PHOTO Wood Steps Let’s make a memory as members of NSPO 2018!
8:00PM HALL MEETINGS Balch Auditorium Your safety is important to us. Our Emergency Response and Residential Life staff will share important information, ensuring your safety and success at Scripps.

    5:00PM DINNER Malott Commons Dine with your Peer Mentors and get to know your group beyond their favorite superhero or hometown.
    6:30PM BEYOND ALCOHOL EDU Garrison Auditorium Explore the cultural norms and expectations of alcohol, the impact alcohol has on sleep and the science of tolerance.
    9:00PM CLASS CONNECTIONS Multiple Locations Join us for activities that contribute to our commitment of community engagement and connectedness.

    Language placement exams are required of all students who have completed one semester of high school foreign language instruction or who have competency in a language other than English. Bring your ID & a writing instrument to this session. If you need assistance getting to your exam, meet at Wood Steps at 8:10am.

    10:30AM MATH PLACEMENT EXAM Garrison Auditorium Math placement recommendations are based on your proficiency as determined by this exam. Placement recommendations will be visible on the student portal and sent via email after 3pm.
    12:00PM LUNCH Malott Commons Feed your mind, body and soul, but mostly your body.
    2:00PM ACADEMIC ADVISING Faculty Offices Meet with your faculty adviser to plan your academic program. Prior to your meeting, review course offerings, develop a tentative schedule, and prepare questions to discuss with your adviser.
    5:00PM DINNER Malott Commons Nom, Nom, Nom!
    7:00PM CLASS CONNECTIONS Multiple Locations Meet up with your Peer Mentors and the SOAR Coordinators for some fun and prep before your SOAR trip.
    9:00PM 5C ORIENTATION EVENT Tiernan Soccer Field Step right up to the annual Scripps Carnival. Come meet the new students from Scripps, Pitzer, Pomona, CMC and HMC for a night of fun, food and frivolity.

    9:00AM SOAR EXCURSIONS Off-Campus/Garrison Auditorium All new students embark on SOAR trips led by your Peer Mentors. Explore the greater LA area while getting to know the newest members of the Scripps family.
    6:00PM FOOD TRUCK FESTIVAL East/West Alee After a long day, who wants to cook? Not us! Let the local food truck artisans excite your taste buds fo the 1st Annual Food Truck Festival.
    9:00PM 5C COMMUNITY EVENT Pitzer College Come out and mingle with other new students from The Claremont Colleges and enjoy the music 90’s music.

  • Steele 229 The wait is over – time to select your classes for the fall semester. Your CP&R Registration registration time can be found on your packet and on your portal. Be sure you bring your notes from your advising appointment, along with your network credentials. Career Planning & Resources will also be around to schedule your personal orientation with their staff.

    5:30PM MATRICULATION DINNER/DANCE JAQUA WEST Our closing orientation tradition is the beginning of your journey at Scripps. All new students are welcomed by our President, Dean of Faculty and Dean of
    Students as they sign the Scripps Book, followed by dinner, live music and dancing.
    8:00PM 5C ORIENTATION EVENT Claremont McKenna College Come enjoy the other new 5C students for a night of square dancing, horseshoe throwing, and sweet tea under the glow of twinkle lights.

    Get some rest – the next day is your first day of classes at Scripps!
