CMS Athletes Send Aid to Those Affected by Hurricane Harvey

Claremont-McKenna-Scripps (CMS) athletes rallied recently to donate and ship more than 400 pieces of clothing to help Houston residents who were affected by Hurricane Harvey. CMS equipment manager Brian Smith said teammates answered the call put out by his fellow equipment colleagues at the University of Houston, who provided an organized avenue for the clothing drive to occur.

CMS Athenas Earn Their Fourth SCIAC Championship

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s volleyball team earned the fourth regular season championship in program history with the three set win over Redlands. The Athenas finish the regular season in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 14-2 record.

Tyra Abraham ’18 Breaks Records in Women’s Track and Field

Tyra Abraham ’18 set the CMS record for the 200 meter dash at a blazing 24.85. She also holds the CMS and SCIAC record in the 100 m and is now at the top of CMS and seventh in SCIAC for the 200 m.

Results in the Classroom Earn Athenas and Stags Scholar All-America Team Honors

The reigning conference champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps swimming and diving teams have had a great deal of success in and out of the pool over the years. The list of accolades continues to grow as both the Stags and the Athenas were recognized as Scholar All-America Teams by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) in an announcement on Jan. 27.

The award recognizes teams whose grade-point average totaled 3.0 or higher during the 2015 Fall semester. The men’s team compiled a GPA of 3.27, and the women’s average was 3.38 during that time period.

For the thirteenth year in a row, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Women’s Swim and Dive team are Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) champions. The February 22 victory topped off a perfect season in conference competition for the Athenas.
