CMS Athenas Cross Country Win Second Consecutive NCAA West Regional Title

The Athenas cross country team finished first at the NCAA West Regional on Saturday and won their second consecutive region title and the 8th in the history of the program.

The women, ranked fourth nationally, won the title by the largest margin in region history. CMS Athenas had six runners in the top 15 for the entire race and finished with all six in the top 13 overall. Breanna Deutsch ’12 led the team with a third place finish and a personal best time of 21:37. Seniors Jennifer Tavé ’12 and Julia Rigby ’12 finished 11th and 13th respectively. All six runners earned All-Regional honors for finishing in the top 35.

The women’s cross country team finished first at the SCIAC Championships and won their second consecutive SCIAC title and the 21st in the history of the program.

Breanna Deutsch ’12 earned All-SCIAC honors for the first time while Julia Rigby ’12 was All-SCIAC for the fourth time and earned First Team honors for the second time.

The Athenas automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships this Saturday, November 19, in Winnecone, Wisconsin by virtue of finishing in the top two.
