Scripps students have access to numerous grants that provide support for research, conferences, leadership opportunities, and more.

Arthur Vining Davis Library Internship Ella Strong Denison Library at Scripps College has distinctive resources of rare books, manuscripts, and archives to disseminate to the wider scholarly world. The Student Summer Library Internship supported by the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations is an academic fellowship. It will make it possible for a Scripps College student to conduct research in the library’s collections of primary source materials from June-August.
Bekki Lee Memorial Endowed Scholarship The Bekki Lee Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established in 2013 through the generosity of Bekki’s friends and family to celebrate her lifelong commitment to education, access and inclusivity. Bekki’s deep commitment to education will be remembered, honored, and celebrated in perpetuity through the award of the Bekki Lee Memorial Endowed Scholarship to a deserving student who has made significant efforts to enhance the Scripps community. The recipient of this award will receive up to $6,000 in loan and/or grant replacement.
Bruner Carter Center Sponsorship Through the generosity of Barbara Bruner ’76, one student will receive funds to attend the Carter Center’s Executive Briefing Conference and activities in and around Atlanta from March 14-15 with an optional add-on trip to Plains, GA (Carter’s hometown) through March 17. This award will cover all conference related expenses including airfare, hotel, registration and meals.
Ellen Clark Revelle Scholarship “The Nellie” “The Nellie” is an innovative and transformative scholarship honoring the alumna and former trustee Ellen Clark Revelle ’31. Designated as an Ellen Clark Revelle Scholar, the recipient of this award must be a continuing student who is making excellent academic progress, demonstrates financial need, and fully engages in the Scripps College community and beyond through leadership activities.
Esterly Awards Awards up to $2,000 to students who “present worthwhile educational projects to be conducted during the summer for which they do not have readily available funds.”
Hsu Fund for Academic Interactions with China The Hsu Fund for Academic Interactions with China was establised to fund students and faculty who will be working on projects or research in China.
Johnson Summer Student Research Grants Scripps awards 5-8 Johnson Summer Student Research Grants each year. This award enables current Scripps students to complete interdisciplinary summer research.
Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program The goal of the MMUF program is to identify and support underrepresented students, and others with a demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity, who are interested in earning a doctorate in the core fields of arts and sciences and becoming future faculty. The Claremont Colleges MMUF program selected an inaugural cohort of 10 students in spring 2019, with an eventual cohort size of 20 students from across the colleges each year.
Napier Initiative The Pilgrim Place community offers two $20,000 Napier Awards for Creative Leadership to graduating seniors at the five Claremont Colleges.
Samella Lewis Scholarship The Samella Lewis Scholarship was established by friends, students, and admirers of Samella Lewis – artist, arts educator, and former Scripps professor. The scholarship honors her as an instructor, artist, and mentor. The College will award this scholarship annually to a junior or senior African-American student who demonstrates excellence in character, leadership, and responsibility. The recipient(s) of this award will receive up to $4,500 in loan repayment upon graduation.
Scripps College Research in Environmental Analysis Research & Pre-Thesis Fellowships The goals of the Scripps College Undergraduate Research Fellowship in Environmental Analysis are to provide opportunities for students (1) to gain critically important research skills and training in a faculty-directed research fellowship, (2) to pursue their own research questions and more fully develop their senior theses with a pre-thesis fellowship on topics related to the environment and (3) to support senior thesis research on topics related to the environment.
Scripps student conference travel funds For students presenting their own research at a conference, funds are available to supplement those from student organizations.
The Lori Bettison-Varga Endowment Fund The Lori Bettison-Varga Endowment Fund will focus on supporting senior thesis/senior capstone projects, which includes materials and equipment and costs associated with conference presentations of their work.
W.M. Keck Summer Research Fellowships Awards $4,000 to students conducting summer research under the supervision of a W.M. Keck Science Department professor.
