Early music analysis, sacred music, theory pedagogy, race and identity in Korean and American musics
YouYoung Kang teaches music theory and seminars on topics such as "Music and the Performance of Identity" and East Asian music. Her research in music theory focuses on counterpoint, seventeenth-century compositional practice, and the analysis of early music. Professor Kang's authorship of the Korean American section of the "United States of America," New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians manifests her additional interest in the traditional music of Korea and in musical practices in the Korean American communities.
