The IDEA initiative continues its work within and beyond the Scripps community to expand support for Black students, elevate the community’s consciousness about race and racism, and measure and communicate the progress of our efforts to address inequalities experienced by students, faculty, and staff of color.

A new data science minor was instituted as part of the Innovative Learning Initiative. New courses include two Mellon Interdisciplinary Humanities Initiative (MIHI) clinics.

Presidential Scholarship January 2021 Update

Met and exceeded initial campaign goal for Scripps’ Presidential Scholarship Initiative with more than $10.5 million in supporting gifts and commitments. Now able to provide approximately 10 percent of the Scripps student body loan-free financial aid packages.

Computer Science Initiative Update

Scripps partnered with Silicon Valley technology leaders and other liberal arts colleges to help students build fluency in computer and data science as part of the Computer Science Initiative.

Strategic Planning Update Meetings Held for Campus Community

President Lara Tiedens led two community sessions on April 13 and 16, where she brought everyone up-to-speed on the planning development to date and introduced faculty co-chairs of the four theme teams. Each professor provided highlights on their team’s planning process to date, which included reviewing the data provided by the Scripps community last fall, team discussions on where there are gaps or opportunities, and how their team is translating the data into initiatives and prioritizing those initiatives.

Students were invited to join a strategic planning session to share their vision for the College this month. The date for the session was to be determined.

Survey Results Shared with Credo

Results from the strategic plan survey were shared with the planning firm Credo. More than 100 responses were gathered from the Scripps community, providing additional ideas and perspectives from those who were not able to attend the planning workshops. This data will supplement the valuable feedback collected from the August and September worshops.
