Planning Guidance

The College has put substantial effort into creating a safe and healthy campus environment so that students may return to campus. The following provides information about what guided our plans to welcome the Scripps community back to campus this academic year.

Additionally, all students and employees will be required to download the Healthfully app and participate in regular health screenings. If you are feeling sick, have been deemed a close contact, or have been recently diagnosed with COVID-19, please call the Scripps helpline immediately at (909) 308-2711.

Guiding Principles

Decisions made about the fall, our campus, and our operations will be determined by:

  • our desire to protect the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff;
  • the extent to which we can continue to fulfill our educational mission and create the conditions under which our community will thrive; and
  • our ability to adjust physical spaces and operations to adhere to evolving public health and safety standards.

Health and Safety

We are creating a campus that adheres to state and county health department requirements and follows the advice of public health experts. When we resume in-person instruction, the campus community can expect:

  • to wear masks when not in an individual room or office;
  • less densely occupied residence halls;
  • more to-go options in the dining hall;
  • restrictions on gatherings to promote physical distancing;
  • many classes to meet outside;
  • protocols for screening, testing, contact tracing, isolation, and quarantine; and
  • training and commitment to follow all public health and safety guidelines

Cleaning Protocols

To promote the safest possible conditions on campus, we are continuing to provide enhanced cleaning throughout campus with increased attention to commonly touched surfaces. Based on recommendations from the CDC and Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the College:

  • cleans and sanitizes all bathrooms daily;
  • routinely cleans frequently touched surfaces (e.g., doorknobs, light switches, countertops);
  • promotes hand hygiene by providing hand sanitizer in areas of public access throughout the campus.

Community Expectations

The Scripps community plays an important role in our students’ lives and the life of the College. During these difficult times, it is more critical than ever that the extended community comes together to provide a safe, supportive environment for our students that delivers on the Scripps promise of a transformative education. The College expects the Scripps community to:

  • observe our campus safety protocols and infection control measures while on campus;
  • be flexible as we continue to work through this new environment;
  • support each other; and
  • remember—this only works if we work together.
