
David Kawalko Roselli,
Biography
Professor Roselli works broadly on the cultural history of ancient Greece and on modern ideas about culture and class. He is the author of Theater of the People: Spectators and Society in Ancient Athens (Austin: University of Texas Press, 2011). Currently Roselli is completing a book on subaltern representations and the formation of minority discourse in ancient Greece.
His articles and essays have been published in such journals as Phoenix, Helios, Classical Antiquity, and Greek, Roman, and Byzantine Studies. He is also contributing essays to various "Companions" (Cambridge and Blackwell) and is a contributor to Blackwell's Encyclopedia of Ancient History. Roselli has received fellowships from the Fulbright Foundation, the Mellon Foundation, and the Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst (DAAD). He received a Mary W. Johnson Faculty Achievement Award (Scripps College) in 2007 and a Graves Award for Outstanding Accomplishment in Actual Teaching in the Humanities (ACLS) in 2008. For 2009-2010 he was awarded an NEH Fellowship at the American School of Classical Studies in Athens.
In addition to teaching all levels of Greek and Latin to students from The Claremont Colleges, Roselli offers a number of courses on the culture and reception of ancient Greece. At Scripps College, Roselli offers courses in the Humanities Major: Interdisciplinary Studies in Culture and regularly contributes courses to the Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities.
