Scripps College Receives $10 Million Pledge Toward Faculty Initiatives

An anonymous donor has made a $10 million gift pledge to Scripps College, President Nancy Y. Bekavac announced last week. Pledged on behalf of the Board of Trustees, it will be the largest gift from a living donor in the College’s history.

The endowed funds are to be used in support of faculty initiatives as outlined in the College’s strategic plan. According to Roxanne Wilson, chair of the Board of Trustees, the donor emphasized that the gift is intended to signal clear and enthusiastic support of the Scripps faculty.

“In addition,” said Wilson, “the gift is meant to demonstrate the trustees’ confidence in Ellen Browning Scripps’ vision for the College and their desire to help perpetuate the strong interdisciplinary program in the humanities.”
