Professor Ken Gonzales-Day, the Scripps College Fletcher Jones Chair in Art, was recently appointed to the board of directors at the Mike Kelley Foundation for the Arts (MKFA). The organization seeks not only to preserve its namesake’s legacy, but also to extend the spirit of his artistry by supporting and fostering “critical thinking, risk taking, and provocation in the arts.” Gonzales-Day joins the board after having previously served on the 2024 selection committee for the MKFA Organizational Support Grants.

“The foundation is thrilled to welcome Ken to the board,” Chair of the Board Edward Rada said in an interview with LA Downtown News, “[He brings] a profound commitment to the arts and arts education, as well as personal connections to the foundation and its mission. We are fortunate to have [his] expertise and experience as we look towards the future.”

Gonzales-Day’s interdisciplinary work considers the history of photography, the construction of race, and the limits of representational systems.

“I was thrilled to be invited to join the board of the foundation because I have the deepest respect for its commitment to critically engaged work, its focus on supporting SoCal arts organizations, and for its often crucial support for the Los Angeles arts community,” Ken Gonzales-Day told the outlet.
