The First-Year Experience
Scripps 360° is a dynamic, comprehensive initiative that prioritizes the transition and growth experienced during the first year of college. Starting with New Student Orientation, students, along with their peer mentor group and resident advisors,will experience the year together through programs such as our Peer-to-Peer Discussion Panels, Workshop 360°, featured Scripps Presents Speaker Series, and Compass 360°.
Scripps 360° will highlight available resources and profile the various offices within the College, creating a thoughtful balance between information delivery and experiential opportunities for growth during the first weeks, first semester and first year at Scripps College.
Signature Programs
Workshop 360°
Through Workshop 360° first-years will explore who they are as individuals and their role in building community. Scripps staff from different departments will collaborate to lead these interactive workshops centered on fostering a healthy balance between personal and academic success at Scripps.
Peer-to-Peer
Peer-to-Peer Panel Discussions aim to create dialogue that demystifies what it means to be a student leader on campus. First-years will have the opportunity to engage in open discussions with student leaders to understand the demands of holding a leadership position on campus and how to maintain a balance between extracurricular and academic expectations.
Compass 360°
Compass 360° is a program designed to familiarize first-year students with resources and offices within the Claremont consortium. All first-year students are expected to visit 15 of the resources and/or offices over the course of the fall semester. At each location, students will get a 360° sticker to place in the corresponding square of the Compass 360° map. Completed maps will be submitted to the Dean of Students Office. Those students who complete the maps will be eligible for a November raffle featuring an Apple watch as the Grand Prize.
