Meet Maya ’25

Hi there! I’m Maya, a first year from Seattle, Washington. I’m hoping to dual major in Politics and Economics, since I find Global Politics and systems of power extremely interesting. Other than admissions, I’m involved with FirstGen@Scripps and play tennis on the intramural team. I’m also excited to be involved with the Scripps Pre-Law society this semester. Outside of class, you can find me knitting and crocheting, swimming in the pool at Tiernan Field house, flying planes, and reading John Steinbeck novels.

In the college process, I was unsure of what I wanted. I only knew that I did not want to go to a historically women’s college after attending an all-girls high school. When narrowing down what I valued in a college, I found that I wanted a learning environment where I felt supported and could form close connections with my professors and peers. I was searching for a college with strong academics and a strong sense of community. After a few minutes browsing the website, I realized that Scripps was the embodiment of everything I wanted in a college. Now, I’m finishing my first year and I couldn’t be happier that I chose Scripps!

I’ve been so lucky to spend my first year here on campus. Everyone has been so kind and welcoming to me as I navigate my first year of college. As I continue to navigate my college experience, I can’t wait to share it with you all! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out, my email is mgarcia5213@scrippscollege.edu
