Advice From a Graduating Senior

Advice for Incoming College Students

As I look on to graduating in the next couple of weeks, I have been reflecting upon my past four years at Scripps as a college student. These past four years have flown by, but I know I have learned a lot both academically and personally.

My first piece of advice would be to try something new! There are honestly so many fun activities and things to try here that it is worth it to take advantage of what the schools have to offer. This past year as a senior, I started taking beginner group piano lessons through the Scripps music department, and it has been such a wonderful experience. But you could try anything from taking a dance class, a coding class, or anything of interest! I am very grateful for being able to just learn a fun new skill outside of academics and to get to know some new peers.

Next, I would recommend getting involved with some sort of club or student group. I have really loved being a part of the Scripps Asian American Sponsor Program, working with the Pre-Health Office, and of course, my time with Admissions. I have met so many wonderful people through all of these opportunities, whether I am meeting a prospective student on a tour or a first-year pre-health mentee! There are so many ways to integrate into Scripps and the 5Cs, and I highly recommend becoming more involved with the community.

Lastly, I would just take advantage of everything that college has to offer. This could mean anything from meeting with professors to attending Scripps Tea to taking some time to relax at the Tiernan pool. I know I will miss seeing my friends and peers every day around campus, at the dining halls, and in class. Being involved with the pre-health community has allowed me to grow so much as a leader and meet so many amazing people. And my time in Admissions has been such a rewarding experience, from representing Scripps at college fairs to meeting all of the Admissions staff to working with my peers in the office. College is a journey and there will be many ups and downs, but it is such an exciting time to try new things, meet new people, and grow!
