The Scripps Experience: CMS Athletics

Scripps is known for its rigorous academics, and its incredibly talented student-athletes are making a name for the College, too. Students involved in the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) athletics program, a partnership between Scripps, Claremont McKenna, and Harvey Mudd Colleges, are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Conference, which includes 180,000 student-athletes at 450 institutions.

The Scripps Experience: The STEM Living Learning Community

Instead of the usual promise of, “See you next week!” after their cell biology lecture, students pack up and walk back to their shared residence, a dedicated corridor in Wilbur Hall. Although the situation may seem unusual for a small residential college, it is part of the day-to-day for Scripps students who are members of the newly established science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and pre-health Living Learning Community (LLC).

The Scripps Experience: The Scripps Live Arts CLORG

When Nina Posner ’17 discovered Scripps Live Arts (SLA) during her first year, it was a revelation. “I couldn’t believe booking bands and making shows happen for other people was a real thing we were allowed and encouraged to do in college,” she remembers.

The Scripps Experience: Fall Undergraduate Research Symposium

On October 9, 29 Scripps students gathered in the Hampton Room at Malott Commons to present data and analyses of their original research projects to faculty and peers at Scripps’ third annual Fall Undergraduate Research Symposium. This daylong event included presentations by recipients of the Environmental Analysis, Esterly, Hsu Fund, Johnson, LASPA Action, and Mellon grants. Taken together, the students’ research was conducted in more than seven languages and across nine countries, in fields ranging from philosophy, to chemistry, to feminist theory, to sustainable development.

The Scripps Experience: The Career Planning & Resources Tech Trek

Three days, nine companies, 12 Scripps students, and one incredible experience: From August 5 to 7, Scripps College’s Career Planning & Resources (CP&R) team hosted its first-ever career exploration and networking trip to San Francisco to meet with companies and alumnae in the technology industry. Called the Bay Area Tech Trek, the trip connected current students with Scripps alumnae who work at innovative tech firms Anaplan, Eventbrite, Facebook, Medallia, NextDoor, Pinterest, Spongecell, Twilio, and Uber. Visiting three companies each day, the students explored what careers in technology might look like, gained advice from professionals in the industry, and networked with successful Scripps graduates.
