The First-Year Experience
Scripps 360° is a dynamic, comprehensive initiative that prioritizes the transition and growth experienced during the first year of college. Starting with orientation, students, along with their peer mentor group will experience the year together through programs such as our first-year experience, peer-to-peer discussion panels, Courtyard Conversations, featured Scripps Presents Speaker Series, and Compass 360°.
Scripps 360° will highlight available resources and profile the various offices within the College and consortium, creating a thoughtful balance between information delivery and experiential opportunities for growth during the first weeks, first semester and first year at Scripps College.
Scripps 360° Connections
Navigating the first year of college can be daunting, even for the most confident among us! Scripps 360 is a program designed to ease the transition to college, connect students to important information and resources, and help students find community at Scripps. Participation allows first-year students a chance to get to know other first year students—across the class. We call it the Scripps 360 Connection, a way to get to know members of your class outside of classes and those who don’t live in your residence hall.
Peer-to-peer panel discussions aim to create dialogue that demystifies what it means to be a student leader on campus. First-years will have the opportunity to engage in open discussions with student leaders to understand the demands of holding a leadership position on campus and how to maintain a balance between extracurricular and academic expectations.
Compass 360° is a program designed to familiarize first-year students with resources and offices within the Claremont consortium. Consider this a cross between a resource fair, a scavenger hunt and a bucket list. As students navigate Scripps, consortium and Claremont community, they’ll discover useful information, arming them for success while also having fun.
