Images of an event are often used to attest to its occurrence. But what if there are no images of that event or what if, for some reason, the images have been lost? How do you then use images to represent an imageless event? And if that event is genocide, what sort of re-created images could adequately substitute for the missing images? “The Missing Picture” and “The Act of Killing” have recently taken on the challenge, producing reenactments of genocide to raise ethical issues.
