Cap and Gown Pick up and Drop-Off
Please stop by Balch Auditorium on May 7th or May 8th from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm and 1:00pm – 3:00 pm to pick up your Cap and Gown. All seniors must fill out the Career Planning & Resources’ Senior Survey in order to receive their cap and gown.
Please make sure to drop off your hood and gown following the ceremony in front of Tiernan Field House.
A mandatory rehearsal for graduates participating in the commencement ceremony will be held Thursday, May 16, 2019, at 5:00 p.m. in Garrison Theater. Students MUST arrive promptly for a review of commencement ceremony procedures, last-minute announcements, and to receive important information regarding photography during the ceremony. Caps and gowns are not needed for rehearsal.
Senior Class Photo
Please arrive at the outdoor steps in front of Garrison Theater on Saturday, May 19, 2019, at 3:45 p.m. for the senior class photo. The photo will be taken with caps and gowns, so students should arrive in full regalia. The Class will move directly from the photo to lining up for the commencement processional.
Registration for Ceremony and Dinner Dance
Tickets are not required for the Scripps College Commencement ceremony, and there is no limit to the amount of guests per graduate who may attend. For attendance count purposes only, we ask that you register the number of people in your group who will be attending the Commencement 2019 ceremony.
Seating is open and available on a first come, first served basis. Attendees may begin lining up at 3:00 p.m. on the south side of Bowling Green; seating will begin at 3:30 p.m. Seats have been reserved for those who have contacted the Public Events office and requested accommodations for disabilities. All members of a party must be present to occupy a seat.
A Celebration Dinner Dance will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019, beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Alumnae Field. Advance purchase is required; tickets will not be sold at the door. You will receive three complimentary tickets (one for yourself, plus two additional). Any additional tickets are $33.00 per person.
Guests will check in under your name and will receive a complimentary drink ticket that can be used for alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages. Scripps requests that guests do not bring their own alcohol to the event. Please be advised that during the Dinner Dance, anyone looking less than 21 years old may be asked to provide valid photo identification to obtain an alcoholic beverage.

Use FIREFOX or Google CHROME to log into your portal. Do not use Internet Explorer or Safari.
- Login to the Portal at scrippscollege.edu
- From the “Student” tab go to “Name Pronunciation” located on the left-hand side menu. From there follow the instructions and your name pronunciation will be saved.
- Please record your name as you would like it announced at commencement. For example, if you want your middle name omitted or added, please include this.
- In addition to stating your name clearly, please also type a phonetic pronunciation.
- You also can access the Name Pronunciation feature from your mobile phone or tablet the same way – upload an audio file/ or use your mobile phone app to record.
ADA and Language Services
To request accommodations for any guests who have accessibility needs, please complete this form. This might include language assistance, hearing assistance, ASL interpretation, wheelchair seating, handicap parking spaces, etc. A map showing handicap parking areas and wheelchair access routes on campus can be found here.
Please note that the Humanities Auditorium will also be equipped with a live feed of the ceremony on Elm Tree Lawn for individuals who may have difficulties with outdoor seating. The auditorium will be air conditioned and is wheelchair accessible.
Scripps College makes available a wireless audio system for simultaneous language interpretation of the commencement ceremony. If there is a sufficient number of requests for interpretation services for a language, the College will try to accommodate those requests. The service is offered at no charge, but a piece of identification will be required to pick up a headset.

Senior Grad Portraits
Graduates are invited to make an appointment for their formal Commencement portrait with a professional photographer from Ultimate Exposures. On Monday, March 11th, they will be coming to the Hampton Room from 2:30 – 7:30 p.m, as well as on Thursday, April 18th from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. You must have a scheduled appointment in order to take your portrait.
