Dear Scripps College Community,
I am thrilled to announce that Scripps College has been designated by the Schuler Education Foundation as a partner in its Schuler Access Initiative. The initiative is designed to enroll a greater number of students with limited financial resources (Pell-eligible) and students with undocumented status who are ineligible for federal aid at top liberal arts colleges in the US.
The Schuler Education Foundation will provide a transformative matching challenge grant of up to $15 million to inspire the Scripps community to give, resulting in a total of $30 million in new financial aid. Together, our shared investment will fuel four-year scholarships for qualifying students over the next decade and beyond, meaningfully advancing inclusive student access at Scripps.
Scripps’ history as a women’s college is rooted in extending higher education to underrepresented students—but the Scripps experience remains unaffordable and therefore out of reach for some. Over the years, we’ve expanded our efforts to become more accessible through ongoing diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice initiatives, student support programs, and increased scholarship aid.
Thanks to this work, Scripps has become one of only ten liberal arts institutions in the nation to join the Schuler Foundation’s highly selective cohort of partner colleges. You, our supportive community, have been key to positioning Scripps for this unique opportunity to bridge the financial chasm for more students. We could not have done this without you.
To say we are excited is a vast understatement. Not only will the Schuler Access Initiative significantly scale our progress toward making the College more inclusive of students from varied backgrounds, it’s also a rare chance for us to help break a longstanding barrier that has excluded them from experiencing all higher education has to offer. The addition of these students’ perspectives and contributions will enrich our entire community for years to come.
I look forward to sharing details on how you can support the initiative in the near future. In the meantime, I strongly encourage you to consider making a pledge to give here. Thank you for making this historic opportunity possible for Scripps!
Sincerely,
Suzanne Keen
President
