Sojourner Truth Lecture

Dr. Treve B. Lindsey will present our annual Sojourner Truth Lecture in Balch Auditorium.

Dr. Treva B. Lindsey is a Professor of Women’s , Gender and  Sexuality Studies at The Ohio State University and the co-founder of Black Feminist Night School at Zora’s House.  Her research and teaching interests span from African American women’s history, to black feminism(s) to hip hop studies. Her latest book, America Goddam:  Violence, Black Women, and The Struggle for Justice was described as “required reading for all Americans” a starred Kirkus review.  She has published in numerous journals as well as having been an ACLS/Mellon Scholar and Society Fellow and the inaugural Equity for Women and Girls of Color Fellow at Harvard University

The Sojourner Truth Lectureship established in 1983 honors the achievements and contributions of outstanding African American women in the U.S. and the African diaspora . Conceived and administered by faculty in the Intercollegiate Department of Africana Studies, the lectureship is  sponsored by six of the Claremont Colleges :  Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, Pomona , Scripps Colleges and Claremont Graduate University
