Self-Realization in Confucianism and Daoism
The Humanities Institute presents Sin yee Chan, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Vermont.
This lecture will explore the contrasting views of Confucianism and Daoism on thequestion of self-realization. Confucianism believes that one achieves self-realization through cultivation of virtues and social engagement. Daoism points to the deconstruction of a dichotomous way of thinking and a merge with the Dao. The lecture will also look briefly at the issue of gender in these two philosophical schools.
