Community Film Festival “La Placita” – Second Screening

The second screening of the Community Film Festival “La Placita” will take place on Dec. 7th For its second screening, we are pleased to announce the visit of filmmaker Itandehui Jansen who will present her film “Tiempo de lluvia” (film in Spanish and Mixteco with English subtitles). Organized by Uncommon Good and the Spanish department at Scripps College, this film festival is conceived as a space for cultural exchange between Latinx youth and adults at the Claremont Colleges and in the city of Pomona. Through the screening of independent films across a range of genres, as well as filmmaking workshops, this festival aims to generate discussion around themes relevant to the Latinx community and that contribute to a sense of solidarity across gender, generations and other identity markers. All “La Placita” events are free and open to the public.

Itandehui Jansen was born in Oaxaca, Mexico and is both a filmmaker and scholar. She studied an MFA in Directing Film at the Netherlands Film Academy in Amsterdam and conducted her PhD at the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts at Leiden University. Her films have screened at many different international film festivals, such as IDFA, the Cork International Film Festival and the Morelia International Film Festival. Her first feature, the micro-budget film In Times of Rain has screened at over twenty international film festivals and again won several awards
