Ani DiFranco and Liz Phair in Conversation
Widely considered a feminist icon, Grammy winner Ani DiFranco is the mother of the DIY movement, one of the first artists to create her own record label, Righteous Babe Records. Indie rocker Liz Phair, whose Exile in Guyville has been hailed as a landmark, is one of the few women artists whose work was recognized on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. In celebration of their latest releases—DiFranco’s twenty-second album, Revolutionary Love, is out in January, while Phair’s Soberish is out in June—the two will talk gender, the music industry, and how songwriting evolves over time with music journalist Margaret Wappler.
