SUMMARY:Title VI and Free Speech Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Conversations and actions that unfolded on campus since October 7\, 2023\, prompted members of our campus community and beyond to engage in dialogue about what language is protected by free speech and what language would violate Title VI\, which prohibits discrimination and harassment on the basis of race\, color\, and national origin. \nDuring the 2024 spring semester\, the Equity and Justice Leadership Team hosted a workshop for students and a webinar for staff and faculty to examine the complexities of two fundamental aspects: Free Speech and Title VI (enshrined in the Civil Rights Act of 1964). \nMembers of the Scripps community have access to the presentation HERE.

DESCRIPTION:  \nVoting registration has increasingly become a hot-button issue—especially during presidential election years. Hosted in partnership with Scripps’ Equity and Justice Team\, distinguished panelists including Scripps Professor of Politics Vanessa Tyson\, LA County Registrar Dean Logan\, and President of the Mt. Baldy Area of League of Women Voters Barbara Nicoll will discuss how voting coincides with equity and access in our country. \nScripps formed the Equity and Justice Team in 2021 under the IDEA Initiative.
