Common Data Sets

When in search of data about Scripps College, the Common Data Set (CDS) is a recommended place to start. The CDS includes information and data related to enrollment, admissions, academic offerings and policies, student life, faculty and class sizes, and financial aid, among other items

As outlined on the CDS website, the CDS is not an actual survey instrument or set of data, but rather a set of standards and definitions of data items that describe a higher education institution comprehensively. Using a common set of definitions allows for more clarity across institutions. The CDS initiative is a collaborative effort among data providers in the higher education community and publishers as represented by the College Board, Peterson’s, and U.S. News & World Report. The combined goal of this collaboration is to improve the quality and accuracy of information provided to all involved in a student’s transition into higher education, as well as to reduce the reporting burden on data providers.
