Meet Caroline ’22

Hi! My name is Caroline and I’m a senior at Scripps studying sociology. I’m originally from Atherton, California, but my family recently moved to Sun Valley, Idaho. I’m actually returning to Scripps after two years away from campus – one spent studying abroad at the London School of Economics and the other on a gap year spurred by COVID-19. I’m excited to be returning to campus to live in the dorms, take classes, and continue working as an Admission Ambassador.

Before studying abroad, I was involved in various student publications at the Claremont Colleges, taking on design, writing, and podcasting roles. I also worked at the Pomona Art Museum. Outside of school and work, I love to work out at the Tiernan Field House, eat dinner with friends on the lawn outside of Mallott, and attend events at the Hive (over at Pomona). This year, I’ll be writing my senior thesis in sociology and interning part-time in marketing.

When it came time to apply to colleges, Scripps definitely stood out to me. My mom had also attended a women’s college, so she encouraged me to take a look at women’s colleges across the country. But when I visited Scripps, the beautiful campus, the kind students, and the unparalleled opportunities at the 5Cs made it the obvious choice for me. I applied early decision and couldn’t wait until move-in day!

In the time since, I’ve made lifelong friends, taken fascinating classes, and gained newfound independence. College is a huge adjustment, and I definitely experienced challenges, but I’ve always been happy that I chose to attend Scripps. I’m still not sure that there’s ever a perfect fit with the college that you choose, but I recommend that you talk to several current students at the colleges on your list and decide if you could see yourself being friends with them. If so, it might be the place for you!
